Tandem breakers, double tapped breakers, mismatched breakers, and wrong sized breakers could mean many different things to the trained eye such as a licensed tech from Arnold Electric Services, Inc. Sometimes a tandem breaker is allowed in a panel for example. Most panel manufacturers will have a diagram with the number of circuits a panel can accept in addition to the number of breakers it will safely accept. Sometimes, for example, a panel will be a 100amp panel with 12 breaker spaces but a 24-circuit panel allowing 12 tandem breakers to be installed. Now in instances when a licensed tech at Arnold Electric sees a tandem breaker in a panel that is not safely able to accept a tandem breaker we start to look at what is going on with the system. Let’s take a look and see when a tandem breaker was added when it wasn’t supposed to be added. What needs to happen to bring the system up to code and optimal operating compacity all while doing it safely? Are there enough circuits? What are the future plans of our clients that could add stress to the system? Sometimes these breaker situations can often lead to recognizing a larger underlining need of a service change or service upgrade from a 100amp to a 200amp service.
