A tripping breaker could mean more than an overloaded circuit. It could also mean your house might need to be rewired. Arnold Electric and our licensed and trained technicians can help you navigate through the differences between what a tripped breaker means for you. Often times an old fuse panel might have been switched out to a breaker panel. Now just because the breakers replaced fuses does not mean that breaker won’t trip like the fuses used to blow. For example, If you can’t run the hairdryer and the vacuum or the toaster and the microwave at the same time without a blowing a fuse you will have the same issue with breakers tripping. One needs to consider rewiring and adding the appropriate amount of circuits per code when changing to circuit breakers. A basic kitchen, for example, takes 7 – 20 amp circuits per today’s Chicago code standards. Sometimes a tripping breaker can be what leads to the discovery of old cloth covered wire. What happens is the cloth insulation deteriorates and exposes the bare wire thus causing tripping breakers. Cloth covered wire is an immediate need for a whole house rewire. Now there could also just be an overloaded circuit as well and this is the first thing our licensed technician will test while on site. If any of this sounds familiar give is a call today.
